In Loving Memory of Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane

Montreal, June 23, 2026 The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) and communities across the city are mourning the tragic loss of **Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, a 34-year-old dedicated police officer who was killed in the line of duty on June 22, 2026, during a shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood.

Const. Benredouane had served with the SPVM since 2021. He was responding to reports of shots fired when he was fatally shot while bravely protecting the public. In the same incident, a civilian (Michael Moshe Mizrahi) and the suspect were also killed, while a second female officer was injured but has since stabilized.

Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher, who had personally met Const. Benredouane on previous occasions, described him as an “excellent police officer” and expressed how difficult the loss is for the entire force. Flags at police headquarters were lowered to half-mast in his honour.

In an official statement, the SPVM expressed profound sadness:

This marks the first SPVM officer killed in the line of duty in over 20 years, highlighting the risks officers face daily.

Colleagues, fellow officers from other departments (including the Delta Police Department), and community members have shared condolences, remembering Const. Benredouane’s dedication and sacrifice. Reports indicate he was a father to a young child and was expecting another child with his wife.
